Heal With Honey!

Honey has been used for several years in several different remedies, that’s no secret. But exactly how good is honey and what can it do for your body?

Honey has an unusual chemical composition, one which makes it keep indefinitely without spoiling. Pretty magical right? I mean what else can keep forever and not spoil besides water?

Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the skin and ensures it’s retained it in the layers where it’s needed most for penetrating, long-lasting hydration. Try it: Spread one teaspoon raw honey on clean, dry skin, and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

The enzymes in raw honey clarify skin and keep pores clear and clean. Plus, the antibacterial properties of honey and jojoba or coconut oil also prevent bacterial buildup that can lead to skin imbalances and breakouts.

Try it: Stir one tablespoon raw honey with two tablespoons jojoba oil or coconut oil until the mixture is spreadable consistency. Apply to clean, dry skin, and massage gently in a circular motion, avoiding your eye area. Rinse with warm water.

-Honey is rich in heart health-protecting antioxidants. In test-tube studies, honey slowed the oxidation of bad LDL cholesterol in human blood. Oxidized LDL’s are your heart health’s worst enemy; they’re the foundation of dangerous plaque deposits in blood vessel walls that can lead to heart attack and stroke. “Honey–the darker the better–dramatically slowed the rate of formation of conjugated dienes, products of oxidation related to LDL in blood.

-Honey contains a treasure chest of hidden nutritional and medicinal value for centuries. The sweet golden liquid from the beehive is a popular kitchen staple loaded with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that has been used since the early days of Egyptian tombs.

-Honey’s scientific super powers contribute to its amazing health benefits for the whole body. The healthy natural sweetener offers many nutritional benefits depending on its variety. Raw honey is the unpasteurized version of commonly used honey and only differs in its filtration- which helps extend its shelf life. A tablespoon of raw honey contains 64 calories, which are fat-free, cholesterol-free, and sodium-free. Its composition is roughly 80 percent carbohydrates, 18 percent water, and two percent vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

-Honey’s anti-inflammatory effects and ability to soothe coughs has led to the belief it can also reduce seasonal allergy symptoms. A common theory is that honey acts like a natural vaccine.

-Honey is an excellent source of all-natural energy at just 17 grams of carbohydrates per tablespoon. This natural unprocessed sugar — fructose and glucose — directly enter the bloodstream and can deliver a quick boost of energy. The rise in blood sugar acts as a short-term energy source for your workout, especially in longer endurance exercises.

The sweet nectar is loaded in antioxidants that may help prevent cellular damage and loss within the brain.  Honey’s ability to help the body absorb calcium is remarkable! And it helps aid brain health. The brain needs calcium in order to process thought and make decisions.

-When it comes tot he pesky cold-Honey can be the all-natural cure. A persistent cough that won’t go away can easily be remedied with two teaspoons of honey! We have all heard of giving our kids honey at nighttime to help with a cough due to the pesky old cold right? Well it’s a proven fact that children coughed less frequently when they were given two teaspoons of honey 30 minutes before bed.

Honey’s thick consistency helps coat the throat while the sweet taste is believed to trigger nerve endings that protect the throat from incessant coughing. Honey is believed to be as effective as the common cough suppressant ingredient dextromethorphan. It can also be used in treating upper respiratory tract infections.

-Honey can bring temporary relief to the scalp by targeting dandruff. By applying honey diluted with 10 percent warm water to problem areas and leaving it on for three hours before rinsing led to itch relief and no scaling within a week! Skin lesions healed within two weeks and honey has also been known to show improvement in hair loss and scalp rejuvenation.

-Honey is a natural antibiotic that can act both internally and externally. It can be used as a conventional treatment for wounds and burns by disinfecting wounds and sores from major species of bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Honey has been utilized for its medicinal properties for over 2,000 years and continues its legacy as a multipurpose health aid.

So what are you waiting for? If you don’t already have Honey in your kitchen, it’s time to go buy some!

DIY; Home Remedies For Luxurious, Fabulous Hair AND Hair Loss!

When it comes to your health, your hair may be the last thing on your mind. But should it be?

Long, thick, bouncy, beautifully voluminous hair tends to be a sign of vitality and youthfulness, as far as society is concerned, and often times, it just makes us feel pretty and feminine.

But as we age, so do our hairs, losing elasticity, thinning, and dulling more as each decade passes. In fact, natural changes that occur over time including our blood flow, the loss of cellular reproduction, hormone changes, and diet can all impact the health of our hair. So maybe it shouldn’t be the last thing on our minds?

Think of your body as a well maintained car. If you do regular maintenance on your nice new shiney car, it will stay running great, in excellent condition, take you where you need to go with no worries, and potentially last you a lifetime.

BUT, on the flip side, if you just drive your car, no oil changes, no maintenance, no tire rotations, brake inspections, etc. Your car is bound to break down. Right? Same with our bodies, and thus our skin, hair, and everything else in between.

The time for upkeep on your self is now. Before there is a problem!

Environment changes and other factors such as anxiety, stress, medication, hormonal imbalance, excessive smoking, the use of hair straightener, curling irons etc.(just to name a few) are some of the causes of hair damage resulting in hair loss. You should know that hair loss is a natural part of life. Just as our skin sheds, so does our hair. Any given day you can lose up to 100 strands of hair. Seems like a lot right? But it’s really not if you think about the millions of strands you have on your head. The key is replacement. If you lose some fine, as long as you get new hair growth in to replace the lost hairs.

Here are some tips to doing that:

Fenugreek Seeds:

There are several benefits to the use of fenugreek seeds for hair loss treatment. Fenugreek also known as methi contains protein and nicotinic acid that help short hair to grow fast. Now here the question arises that how do we use it? Here is a simple method to apply it. Soak one cup of fenugreek seeds overnight and grind it to make its paste. Apply this paste on your scalp and hair. Cover it  leave on for about 45 min-1 hour, and rinse. Use this remedy twice a week for 2-3 months to see its result.

Onion Juice:

Sounds bizarre I know! But onion juice contains high amount of sulfur which reduce irritation and improve blood circulation. It’s antibacterial properties kill bacteria, treat infection and significant hair growth starts. Onion Juice is easy to get. You don’t need to buy Organic, or specialty Onion Juice, unless you want to. To apply cut the onion and extract its juice with a juicer or blender. (I use a blender)  Simple apply it on the scalp, massage it with fingers for 5 minutes, let it sit and wash it out after 30 minutes. Apply this once or twice a week for 1-3 months. Be prepared for awesome results!

Aloe Vera:

The benefits to Aloe Vera are so high that I cant even count them all! Lol, ok I probably could, but the point is there are just to many to list!  Aloe Vera gel for hair reduce redness, itching scalp the increase the quality of the hair. It’s better to grow your own aloe vera plant at home if you can to cut down on cost especially since it has many benefits other than just for your hair. It’s a handy little plant to have around!  Again, make a juice blend of the Aloe Vera and mix it with oil. I uses and prefer Coconut Oil. Massage for 15 minutes to the scalp. Leave on for as long as you can. I try for at least an hour each Aloe hair mask I do. Wash and rinse! Simple and easy tip, but your hair will thank you in the end!

Beetroots are high in folic acid and manganese. The green leaves of this root vegetable are also nutrient dense and contains Vitamin A, C and K. It contains minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, copper, sulphur, silica and chlorine. These nutrients have a favourable effect on the blood, improve red cell production, increase the level of haemoglobin and improve the nutrition of the cells with oxygen.  Beet juice is one of the richest sources of nitrates. It contains trace amounts of amino acids including D amino acids and alpha amino acids. Various antioxidants like flavonoids and carotenoids are also found in this vegetable. Beetroot also contains a pigment, which is known as betalain. This is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and fungicidal. The high antioxidant content and phenolic compounds of this juice prevents cell and DNA damage which helps to remove damaging and ageing free radicals. It also prevents oxidative stress which is common among people of this generation.

Making a hair mask out of Beetroot is simple. Juice or blend it, add coconut oil and massage into your scalp and throughout your hair. Leave on for 30-45 minutes, wash and rinse. If you do this mask at least once a week, you will see amazing results in the texture, growth and shine of your hair.

A Mixture Of Egg, Yogurt And Coconut Oil:

Egg’s have a high content of protein, Coconut Oil gives your hair shine and strength and believe it or not, yogurt helps to reduce dandruff. Just think what a powerful, power packed hair mask it creates when you mix all of these amazing ingredients together! These ingredients together are so beneficial to your hair! Take a bowl and mix them. Apply this mixture to your scalp and massage. Leave it for 30 minutes and wash! You will surely notice the result after even one application of  this mixture. Recommended usage: Twice in a week.

If you’re still only using apple cider vinegar in your salad dressings, you’re missing out! As odd as it might sound, the all-natural, all-purpose kitchen staple is also becoming a preferred beauty potion.

Ever notice how your shampoo seems to stop working after a few weeks, leaving you to assume that you need to buy a new brand? That could be the result of product buildup. It’s easy to forget that our scalp is skin and, just like our faces, needs a good deep cleaning every once in awhile. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid which, when applied to your scalp, removes excess buildup left from styling products and shampoos. Twice a month, after shampooing, I pour one to two cups of the vinegar on my hair; I massage it into my scalp and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Don’t worry, the smell won’t stick around—but if you’d prefer, try a clarifying shampoo like Fekkai’s Apple Cider Shampoo ($20, amazon.com) for similar effects.

These are just a few tip’s and tricks to help you achieve that long luxurious, beautiful head of hair!

Product Review; NUNAAT Garlic Hair Products

I absolutely love trying new hair products and am always on the look out for the next best thing. Well ladies, I think I have found it!  NUNAAT!  Yes, thats right. NUNAAT, and the products are as unique and refreshing and the name.

When I was first approached to try and review this product I have to admit, I thought to myself, do I really want to walk around smelling like garlic? Um, no! Don’t get me wrong, I love the smell and taste of garlic, but not in my hair!

Now before you scrunch up your nose at the name or the word garlic in the post title, or start to think twice like I did originally, Im here to tell you to have an open mind, you won’t be sorry you did.

Let me explain…. garlic is actually very beneficial when it comes to health and beauty. Garlic cleanses impurities and can control excessive oiliness and prevent hair loss.

The beauty of the Garlic Magic system from nuNAAT is that it works its magic at the roots with a fresh clean scent, (no it doesn’t actually smell like garlic)  that gives you shiny hair, luxurious hair from the base of the root to the tip! It restores hair to a strong healthy and natural state using garlic extract but not leaving behind a garlic scent. I promise you it doesn’t…. I used it for a full 30 days before even posting this review and that’s ONLY because there was no garlic smell!

The first thing I did when my package arrived was open it to smell it and I have to say it had a very refreshing scent. Not Garlicky at all. When I used it i was extremely pleased to find that the Garlic Magic Shampoo and Conditioner had a nice rich lather and texture to both of them. I have long hair and I found it very easy to work them through my hair.

It cleans completely without feeling like your hair is stripped.  The conditioners soften without weighing down hair, even when used every day.  I am impressed with the results thus far and hope it continues to get even better.  There are four products that should be used together for best results:  shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, and hair mask.  The hair mask can be used about once every other week or as needed. I tend to have dry hair so I have been using it every week. And I use the leave in conditioner after every shampoo.

  • Restores hair to a strong, healthy and natural state
  • Formulated with garlic extract
  • Fresh, clean scent. No garlic smell!
  • Fights dandruff, excessive oiliness and hair loss
  • Suitable for all hair types. Ideal for slow-to-grow and fragile hair

This new line of nuNAAT products works at the roots, leaving hair with a fresh, clean scent and intense shine. It’s formulated with garlic extract, it cleanses the scalp of impurities and strengthens hair follicles to promote growth, health and a beautiful shine. It also prevents dandruff, excessive oiliness and hair loss.

This naturally powerful antibiotic removes harmful toxins and offers relief to the dry, itchy scalp. When crushed, garlic releases an enzyme known as alliinase, which stimulates blood flow, strengthening hair and reducing breakage. It is also known to  increase body and shine.

Product Review; Revitalash Eyelash Conditioner

Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner is a bit pricey, but in my opinion it’s the most effective, eyelash growth product available without a prescription today.

I don’t talk about this much, but I have a condition called hypothyroidism. For those of you that don’t know much about hypothyroidism it is a condition that causes many conditions to your body including hair loss and breakage.

At first, you may barely notice the symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as fatigue and weight gain, or you may simply attribute them to getting older. But as your metabolism continues to slow, you may develop more obvious signs and symptoms. Hypothyroidism signs and symptom may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Puffy face
  • Hoarseness
  • Muscle weakness, aches, tenderness and stiffness
  • Elevated blood cholesterol level
  • Hair thinning and breakage including eyelashes
  • Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
  • Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
  • Slowed heart rate
  • Depression
  • Impaired memory
  • Loss of memory

All of these symptoms hitting you all at once can be pretty devastating and sometimes debilitating. So, once I had some of the major symptoms under control I was on the search for something for my hair. My luscious long thick strands started to thin to just about nothing and my eye lashes all broke off at different lengths. It was very depressing and aggravating all at the same time. I tried several other products that my doctor gave me but I have to say the ONLY thing that worked for my lashes was Revitalash. It was my saving grace so to speak.

After I did my research on this product, I t touched my heart in a very special way. This is why this wonderful product was created:

It all began when a Doctor wanted to give his wife a very special gift.

RevitaLash® was developed by Michael Brinkenhoff, M.D. as a special gift for his wife, Gayle, while she was recovering from metastatic breast cancer treatments. Intensive chemotherapy had damaged Gayle’s once-beautiful eyelashes, leaving them fragile, sparse and thin. Based upon his knowledge and experience as a practicing ophthalmologist for over 25 years, Dr. Brinkenhoff believed that he could develop a formula that would give Gayle’s eyelashes the look of renewed health, strength and beauty.

After extensive research, Dr. Brinkenhoff, together with a talented team of cosmetic chemists, created a product that truly gave the beautiful look of renewed vitality to Gayle’s eyelashes. RevitaLash® was the perfect name for this amazing product!

Thus, an entirely new and unique cosmetic product was born; and a formula created originally for just one special lady has become a product available to men and women everywhere who want to have attractive, beautiful-looking eyelashes.

“Often we feel helpless when someone we love is suffering. I am very fortunate, in my own small way, to have been able to help Gayle through her recovery. Watching her be excited about her beautiful looking eyelashes has been a real joy.”— Michael Brinkenhoff, M.D

What a heart warming story. And to think this product help his wife as well as millions of other people in the world. So I just knew it was the product for me.

Is Revitalash better than Latisse? I can only speak from my own experience on this one and in my opinion Revitalash is the better choice. The ingredients in Revitalash seem to be well tolerated and none of the plant extracts are known to be problematic. Price-wise, Revitalash is the better bang for your buck, Latisse costs a bit more. I have experimented with both and I have seen better results with Revitalash. To be fair, I couldn’t afford the upkeep with Latisse. If you experiment with them both and find they work equally well, decide with your pocketbook.

After 6 weeks of using this product: (you can still see a little breakage but they are growing so long and thick)

pic 1

  • Contains an ingredient to stimulate lash growth, leading to fuller, longer, healthier-looking lashes.
  • Fragrance-free.
  • Easy to apply: Brush on once nightly and see results in three to six weeks.

  • Price is close to prescription Latisse, a product required to prove its effectiveness and safety before being sold.

A remarkable cosmetic innovation that will dramatically enhance the beauty of your natural lashes.
