Honey has been used for several years in several different remedies, that’s no secret. But exactly how good is honey and what can it do for your body?
Honey has an unusual chemical composition, one which makes it keep indefinitely without spoiling. Pretty magical right? I mean what else can keep forever and not spoil besides water?
Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the skin and ensures it’s retained it in the layers where it’s needed most for penetrating, long-lasting hydration. Try it: Spread one teaspoon raw honey on clean, dry skin, and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
The enzymes in raw honey clarify skin and keep pores clear and clean. Plus, the antibacterial properties of honey and jojoba or coconut oil also prevent bacterial buildup that can lead to skin imbalances and breakouts.
Try it: Stir one tablespoon raw honey with two tablespoons jojoba oil or coconut oil until the mixture is spreadable consistency. Apply to clean, dry skin, and massage gently in a circular motion, avoiding your eye area. Rinse with warm water.
-Honey is rich in heart health-protecting antioxidants. In test-tube studies, honey slowed the oxidation of bad LDL cholesterol in human blood. Oxidized LDL’s are your heart health’s worst enemy; they’re the foundation of dangerous plaque deposits in blood vessel walls that can lead to heart attack and stroke. “Honey–the darker the better–dramatically slowed the rate of formation of conjugated dienes, products of oxidation related to LDL in blood.
-Honey contains a treasure chest of hidden nutritional and medicinal value for centuries. The sweet golden liquid from the beehive is a popular kitchen staple loaded with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties that has been used since the early days of Egyptian tombs.
-Honey’s scientific super powers contribute to its amazing health benefits for the whole body. The healthy natural sweetener offers many nutritional benefits depending on its variety. Raw honey is the unpasteurized version of commonly used honey and only differs in its filtration- which helps extend its shelf life. A tablespoon of raw honey contains 64 calories, which are fat-free, cholesterol-free, and sodium-free. Its composition is roughly 80 percent carbohydrates, 18 percent water, and two percent vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.
-Honey’s anti-inflammatory effects and ability to soothe coughs has led to the belief it can also reduce seasonal allergy symptoms. A common theory is that honey acts like a natural vaccine.
-Honey is an excellent source of all-natural energy at just 17 grams of carbohydrates per tablespoon. This natural unprocessed sugar — fructose and glucose — directly enter the bloodstream and can deliver a quick boost of energy. The rise in blood sugar acts as a short-term energy source for your workout, especially in longer endurance exercises.
The sweet nectar is loaded in antioxidants that may help prevent cellular damage and loss within the brain. Honey’s ability to help the body absorb calcium is remarkable! And it helps aid brain health. The brain needs calcium in order to process thought and make decisions.
-When it comes tot he pesky cold-Honey can be the all-natural cure. A persistent cough that won’t go away can easily be remedied with two teaspoons of honey! We have all heard of giving our kids honey at nighttime to help with a cough due to the pesky old cold right? Well it’s a proven fact that children coughed less frequently when they were given two teaspoons of honey 30 minutes before bed.
Honey’s thick consistency helps coat the throat while the sweet taste is believed to trigger nerve endings that protect the throat from incessant coughing. Honey is believed to be as effective as the common cough suppressant ingredient dextromethorphan. It can also be used in treating upper respiratory tract infections.
-Honey can bring temporary relief to the scalp by targeting dandruff. By applying honey diluted with 10 percent warm water to problem areas and leaving it on for three hours before rinsing led to itch relief and no scaling within a week! Skin lesions healed within two weeks and honey has also been known to show improvement in hair loss and scalp rejuvenation.
-Honey is a natural antibiotic that can act both internally and externally. It can be used as a conventional treatment for wounds and burns by disinfecting wounds and sores from major species of bacteria such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Honey has been utilized for its medicinal properties for over 2,000 years and continues its legacy as a multipurpose health aid.

Lets get technical for a minute…(But only a minute because I don’t like technical mumbo jumbo)
Soaps, creams and other skin care products containing the active ingredient called DMAE, (which stands for Dimethylaminoethanol) are said to be the Fountain Of Youth! DMAE is a nutrient that occurs naturally in our brain, in small amounts, and facilitates the synthesis of acetylcholine.
OK got it! well, maybe not. So what is Acetylcholine? The technical or proper definition is that it is a neurotransmitter that helps in establishing communication between nerves and muscles, and also in carrying messages between brain cells. Acetylcholine works by sending messages to the muscles and stimulates their contraction. Which basically means that products containing DMAE address issues with sagging skin.
The active ingredient helps stimulate the production of acetylcholine, and that enhances the skin tone by firming and tightening its appearance from beneath the skin. WOW! Right? No wonder it’s called the Fountain Of Youth. It works from the inside out.
Another way that DMAE helps the skin is by reducing the accumulation of lipofuscin deposits inside cells. Lipofuscin is a skin pigment that can create discolorations. It has a brownish color and is a result of molecular waste when fatty acids are not metabolized properly by the body. This pigment oftentimes shows up in the form of liver spots or age spots, especially in people who are at a more mature stage in their life. DMAE products also tend to have anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce free radicals in the body.
So, If you’re looking for the best DMAE products, it’s important to understand that it should contain a non-irritating anti-oxidant base. This will help protect your skin cells. Topical application of DMAE soaps and creams may help in the following ways:
- A DMAE has the potential ability to partially increase the firmness of your skin in a smaller time frame than products with out DMAE.
- It can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, especially on the forehead, around the mouth, and around the nose.
- It can potentially reduce the sagginess of the skin in the neck region.
- DMAE could improve the muscle tone of the face and make it look more youthful.
- DMAE may also help the skin around the eyes by reducing the appearance of under eye circles and fine lines.
- DMAE can also reduce coarse wrinkles around the jaw.
- DMAE could also potentially reduce smile lines and help tighten areas around the lips. DMAE further enhances the lip region to improve their shape and fullness by increasing circulation.
- In some cases, it is believed that DMAE in stronger concentrations can tighten the thighs and buttocks areas and address skin dimpling issues.
DMAE is commonly used in different skin products partially as a pH buffer. It is often recommended to take vitamins, such as vitamin C and B, when using a DMAE products to maximize the anti-aging benefits of the product. DMAE is often used as a base product ingredient and combined with other anti-aging ingredients such as alpha lipoic acid and anti-oxidants, salicylic acid and collagen. All of these ingredients together make for one power packed amazing product!
I personally love and use a few products with DMAE. I’m not one to use a million different products on my skin. Who has time for all of that? Being a celebrity makeup artist, a business owner, a wife, a mom (of 6) and grandmother (of 6), my time is limited. So it’s important to me to find products that are efficient and easy to use. It is also important to me that I find products that are cost effective, let’s face it every dollar counts right? Everyone wants more bang for their buck.
I buy my products from Skin Soap Junkie. (www.SkinSoapJunkie.com) They have face/body soaps that have all of the above ingredients all wrapped up into one bar. You cant get more efficient that that! But search the web. A lot of cosmetics companies are adding this amazing ingredient in their products now because it works! You can find reviews and ton’s of information about the DMAE on the web. If you haven’t tried it yet, your missing out.
