Acne can be detrimental to your self-esteem especially as a teen and depending on the severity of your breakout it can make you withdrawn, depressed, and introverted.

So what causes acne and what can we do about it? I’m glad you asked because I’m here to tell you about a wonder product that has worked miracles on my skin. BASIC BLACK Signature Line-Activated Bamboo Charcoal Mask infused with DMAE, Salicylic Acid, Willow Bark Extract, to name a few. Together these incredible ingredients make one fabulous face mask!

Activated Charcoal – “Activated charcoal” is similar to common charcoal that heats up your grill, BUT the cosmetics grade is made especially for use as a medicine. To make activated charcoal, manufacturers heat common charcoal in the presence of a gas that causes the charcoal to develop lots of internal spaces or “pores.” These pores help activated charcoal “trap” chemicals. Some of us may have heard that it is commonly used in the emergency treatment of certain kinds of poisoning. (true) My sister is a nurse.

But, because Cosmetics grade Activated Charcoal has the ability to absorb 200-300 times it’s weight in impurities it works great as a Skin Clearing soap or mask. Activated charcoal has the unique ability to remove toxins, Free radicals and other impurities from your skin that are airborne. You don’t always think about it, or may never think about it, but there is dirt and impurities floating around in the air that you can not see. These little particles nestle themselves deep into your pores and claim residency! The result: The dreaded pimple!

Charcoal Mask

Directions: Apply a thin layer, leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and wash. Beware that your face will be a little red for a short period of time after you rinse the mask off. This is due to the Salicylic Acid in the mask and will subside. I use this mask once every 10 days.

Conclusion: I Love this mask. I personally use it a few times per month or as a spot mask as needed when I see a pesky pimple rearing its ugly head! I highly recommend any products using Activated Bamboo Charcoal. My skin has never been clearer or looked better and I’m in my late 40’s right now. I just wish I knew about this stuff in high school! I can even go with out makeup now 🙂

  1. I’m learning new things every time I go on this blog. Activated Charcoal ?!? At first I thought is one of those platitude cosmetic buzz words. Now I’m seeing this ingredient in a new light. Quick question does this mask dries up to the point of being uncomfortable after 10,15 min?

    • Hi there! Thank you so much. It means a lot to me that my Blogs are insightful to others. Actually this mask is quite comfortable and does not dry up at all. Thats one of the reasons I love it so much. I do not like that dry crackle feeling that other masks get after 10-15 minutes of hitting the air and being on your face. This one stays wet and has a very nice velvety feel to it. 🙂
