Here is a wonderful recipe for a homemade face mask that will help tighten oily and acne-prone skin as well as smooth out and even your skin tone. This masks is not only easy to make (only a few household ingredients), but it’s been tried, tested and loved by other women with oily, acne-prone skin. Plus, it’s all organic!
(Bananas, clay, juice, oatmeal, honey and witch hazel for example are a few of the best DIY ingredients to help remove excessive oils while naturally soothing skin and providing a balanced Ph.)
Here’s the thing about oily skin, which I had for most of my life. While oily skin can seem like such a hassle when you have it, the good news is the oils in your skin are great for keeping wrinkles at bay. The irony is that when you get older, your skin will likely stop making so many oils, and will become drier. This happens to a lot of women (hormones, ugh).
Now that I’m 47, I slather on oils and the most moisturizing lotions I can find. The funny thing is when I was in my 20s and 30s, I had such oily skin, I could take a paper napkin and put it to my face and the oils from my face would show up on the paper when I pulled it away. (ewww) I hated it then, but now understand the protection it gave my skin from wrinkles and wish I had some of those oils back!
So keep in mind that that oily skin you have today may seem like a hassle but skin changes and someday you may turn up with dry less nourished skin and then you’ll miss your formerly oilier self. (at least I do!)
Nourishing Skin Mask: A banana face mask for oily skin. All you need is a super-ripe banana. This is a soothing face mask and great if you have super-ripe bananas around the house. (there not just great for banana bread!) I recommend freezing bananas when they become super-ripe so you can have them on hand when you need them.
- 1 banana, preferably ripe (you can keep ripe bananas in the freezer. Let it thaw before using)
- 2 tbsp honey
- An orange or a lemon
Mash up the banana, then mix in the honey. For best results, put the ingredients in a blender.
Add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon. Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth. Follow with your regular moisturizer.
