GORGEOUS GLOWING SKIN!
We all want it, right? I know I do! In an effort to achieve that coveted complexion I have drawers FULL of pricey products that haven’t left a lasting impression (making them SO not worth that hefty price tag).
Sound familiar? Its okay, I feel your pain. The good news is that you can easily create your own products at home for a fraction of the price that are sure to get your skin looking good. This easy mask is a great example! Made with bentonite clay and activated charcoal (along with some other amazing ingredients), you can whip up your own version of a glowing face mask that will leave your skin supple and smooth, without breaking the bank.

What you will need for this face mask:
2 TBS Coconut Oil
¼ cup Bentonite Clay
1 TBS Activated Charcoal
1 TBS Aloe Vera
Green Tea (heavily steeped) using up to 1/3 cup
*Optional Add-In-But Highly Recommended: 1 tsp Matcha Tea Powder.
Matcha provides a super boost of antioxidants. When incorporated into skin-care products, it helps to reduce inflammation and promote even skin tone.
These two oils pack a punch when it comes to health and skin benefits. Eucalyptus oil is antibacterial and can help speed up the healing process of slow healing wounds and ulcers, calm skin eruptions and clear congested skin.
Peppermint essential oil has antiseptic, regenerative, and stimulating effects. It contains menthol, which stimulates the skin with a cooling sensation. It has been shown to nourish dull skin and improves the texture (yes please!).
Together, these two give the mask a tingly cooling sensation leaving the skin feeling tight and clean.
In a bowl, combine the coconut oil, aloe vera, charcoal and bentonite clay.
I’m sure you already know that coconut oil boasts a LONG list of benefits. It’s awesome for just about everything. In this recipe it provides moisture to nourish the skin while the mask sets.
Bentonite is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays (it’s actually aged volcanic ash!). It carries a strong negative charge which bonds to positive charges in toxins. When it comes in contact with a toxin, chemical, or heavy metal, the clay will absorb the toxin and release its minerals for the body to use. This clay also helps get oxygen to cells as it pulls excess hydrogen and allows the cells to replace it with oxygen instead. When used in skin products it pulls toxins and impurities out of the skin creating a tightening effect and controlling oil. Pretty cool, right?
Activated Charcoal: draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne. It can absorb over 500-times its weight in impurities!
Aloe Vera is widely known as a miracle plant. It possesses excellent moisturizing capabilities, antimicrobial properties which fight acne, and contains both vitamin C and E, both of which are known to be vital for healthy skin and anti-aging, improving firmness and leaving your skin soft, supple and hydrated.
With a spoon, begin mixing the ingredients together. You want to form a paste, so add in the green tea a little at a time until you achieve a thick, sticky, mask-like consistency. You can use up to about 1/3 cup, but by adding small amounts at a time it prevents you from watering the mixture down too much. Green tea is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. When used topically, the green tea polyphenols may work to slow down signs of aging!
Now it’s time for the essential oils. I already mentioned the benefits of each of these and what they contribute to the mask, but they also make it smell wonderful! I used roughly 5-6 drops of peppermint and 3-4 drops of eucalyptus. Be sure to stir the mixture well to incorporate both oils.
Your finished product should look like this: almost black in color (from the charcoal), thick, wet, and sticky. Perfect face mask consistency!
To use, smooth over clean, damp skin. You want even coverage over your face and neck (avoiding the eyes) so you may need to do a few passes to be sure the skin is well coated.
Allow the mask to dry completely (I sat with mine for about 15 minutes) and then rinse with warm water. For an extra boost, do a final rinse with icy cold water to close the pores and tighten the skin, then finish with moisturizer.
