How to get Beautiful, Healthy Hair!

I’ve done my homework on this topic because I myself have thin hair and it seems that nothing I do or try makes it long and thick! Am I just stuck with it? Do I just deal with it? NO. Here are some tips and tricks that you may not know to aid in hair growth:

Adjust Your Diet
“A healthy diet that incorporates a mix of protein and nutrients can improve the condition of your hair,” says Celebrity Hairstylist and NYC Salon Owner Julien Farel. He explains that balanced eating keeps follicles strong and hair from breaking easily. Omega-3 oils. “I recommend salmon or supplements,and Nuts are a good source of protien, especially almonds.”

…But Don’t Over Do It
It’s important to keep weight stable and not yo-yo diet. GUILTY! Hair can be affected by extreme regimen changes, in addition to stress and hormone levels. (Nothing is more stressful then the 4 letter D-word!)

Get Smart About Styling
It’s a well known fact that heat can hurt your hair, so limiting the use of a flat iron  and/or blow drying to just two to three times a week can make a big difference. Well if your anything like me, unfortunately it’s part of our daily routine.By adding, “A weekly deep conditioner masque you can correct some of the damage done by the flat iron or blow dryer.

Try Vitamins and Conditioning Ingredients
“Phytantriol, arginine and fish oil, and biotin aid in the production of enzymes and hormones which can help stimulate hair growth,” says Farel, who suggests his “hero” product: Julien Farel Haircare Restore. The cleanse-treat-condition formula is designed to push regenerating anti-aging ingredients, like hyaluronic acid, deeper into the follicle, scalp and hair, which helps prolong the hair’s growth phase.

Dr. Gerstner recommends the use of supplements like Viviscal, which include biotin, vitamin C, and a special complex of shark powder known as AminoMar, to help aid hair growth and scalp stimulation.

I personally have never tried these products, but I know people in the entertainment industry who have and swear by it. I have tried the following products and will give you my honest review:

1.  Keranique: For me this product was a total waste of money. I did not see any difference in my hair after 3 shipments. The way they get you is “the fine print” so read it thoroughly. It’s very reasonably priced for the trial, but after 30 days your locked in and to cancel you have to pay off your full 1 year commitment which is on an auto-shipment and billed to your credit card monthly. (of course I fought this. If the product doesn’t work you should not have to pay for a full year when you want to cancel, but let me tell you it was a very lengthy time consuming phone call)

2. Nioxin: I have used this product twice. The first time was last year when i noticed my hair was thinning a bit and I wanted to add some length and volume. The first time I tried It I did notice a small change in the length but nothing in the fullness. It was only $21.00 for the kit, no auto-shipment no long commitment because you can walk in and buy it Cosmo Prof. Same thing the second time I tried it. No harm no fowl, only $21.00. My general opinion of the product is it’s just simply OK. Not really worth the Hype of the product, but cheap enough to where if you wanted to try it you wont break the bank. Just don’t expect miracle results.

Take It Easy & Try Not To Stress! (this is a tough one right?)
Because stress can affect hair. Get a weekly or bi-weekly deep tissue massage to relax body and mind. “The adrenals pump out extra cortisol when we are stressed, which leads to acne, skin inflammation, hair disorders and the dreaded belly fat!
